11/29/2020 0 Comments 3rd Weekly UpdateThis week was rather short. I could only work on the novel for half the week. So I haven't made any progress on the spritework, but next week I will certainly pick it up. Meanwhile I have done some work on the sketch for the next promo piece, which will showcase the second cast of characters involved in the VN. Once the lineart is done, it will be posted on the site and will eventually be replaced by the coloured version. The main reason being that they are a unique component of the story which don't get a lot of attention in the demo, so at least having them showcased here will hopefully make this VN in progress stick more in the people's minds. Now on a less marketing note, I have also practiced with making a background and managed to make one that's usable for a demo. I would have loved to be more pragmatic and use photos for the backgrounds, but some rooms in the story are so specific that self-made backgrounds become more time efficient than finding them on the internet or in real life... So that's why I am thankful for the existence of free 3d modeling software like Sweet Home 3D, which allows me to make somewhat competent backgrounds after a little work in Clip Studio. I will try to find out whether these drawn backgrounds can be used in tandem with photo backgrounds for maximum time efficiencyヽ(*・ω・)ノ. In the meantime, I am already working on the second background, but for the release of the first day I will probably keep the other backgrounds simple and make them more consistent with the other backgrounds after the release. Next week I want to finish that background and the start on the final demo spritework for the main cast, Shiro Inanis. Also programming of the first day, will be worked on.

11/22/2020 0 Comments 2nd weekly updateElizabeth's neutral sprite is mainly done, only some extra arms sprites and she will be finished. Work also has begun on the first day of the VN which should be around half an hour long, so it can be posted on several forums. It should take around 1 week to finish it. Work on the spritework of Shiro Inanis, the third heroine, will also begin, but finishing the first day will take precedence. Once Shiro's sprite is done then the character page will finally be complete and I can start on the other group of characters that are involved in the three routes.
11/15/2020 0 Comments 1st weekly updateThis week was entirely spend on the spritework of Daniel. Time was a little tight this week, but now that Daniel's sprite is done the sprites for the characters that appear on the first day of the demo are complete(Namely Sein, Mia and Daniel). Planning for the coming week is to have coded the first day with stand in backgrounds and cg's and drawing 2 more sprites (Elizabeth and the school nurse). If it is good enough I might post the first day on some forums so other's can critique it, else I will work and add to it over the coming weeks until it is.
11/6/2020 0 Comments Start of a new eraHiya everyone, this is the first post on the (still incomplete) website for the Visual Novel "the Logic of Genesis". I am currently the sole member of Studio Somvana and I am curently working fulltime on the novel itself, but more about me in a bit.
--- The Novel First and foremost is the product. Now what is the the novel about? Sein, a highschool student in the city of Probare, lost his memory five years ago and tried to "find himself" in the last five years. When he woke up back then he was greeted by a man with a suitcase telling him about concepts beyond his understanding, but the most curious part about him was the man's orange glowing eyes. Now that he has grown older he sees visions of people with glowing yellow and red eyes. How do these people relate to the man with orange eyes if at all, how do they relate to Sein, but above all, how do they relate to Sein's past and his amnesia? Questions and answers spread over three routes and three heroines, Sein will eventually have to fight for as long as his determination doesn't run out. --- Myself I am completely new to the creator's scene, but I have been practicing drawing(having learned to digitally draw only ~four months ago) and thinking & planning the story of the novel itself for two years already. I wanted to make a visual novel, because I think it is the most pragmatic medium to present my ideas (also I really like anime and visual novels, but that's a given with VN'sヽ(*・ω・)ノ). My initial plan was to create everything surrounding the novel by myself, but one of the first things I had to confront once I started to work seriously on the novel was myself. The first side is the anxiety of presenting yourself online. Although I would claim to be fairly capable when it comes to socializing, presenting myself online (specifically in social media) without having engaged thoroughly to know what are the norms of such media, simply frightened me. To enter brazenly only for others to scoff at the newbie who has just arrived, I am certain others can relate. But I want to do this, I want to make this, I want to complete this project, even if I have to tread for what is for myself the unknown. And I am glad to say that since you and I are both here to read my honest thoughts, I am certainly overcoming that fear. The other side of confronting myself is funnily enough my own ego. Overcoming the ego that I can do everything by myself, although not strictly untrue, was certainly something to struggle with. If I had an infinite amount of time, I could learn how to draw digitally like a professional, I could draw backgrounds like an artist and I could create music like a well-honed musician. Though I would like to think otherwise, I don't have an infinite amount of time. So I had to accept that eventually I will have to find people to commission or gather a team that would want to work with me. Admittedly I have only convinced myself thus far that I will need support after I brought out the first version of the demo, whether that is to show my fair competence or a remnant of my own ego is to be seen (probably both though). --- Status Quo So what I am now working on is Act 1 that would eventually diverge into its respective routes, primarily the art assets and the script. Programming will start once all necessary sprites are complete, since it is quite time consuming to program and to learn that it all has to be reworked due to late change in the script can be quite disheartening. But at worst script changes will be made once a flow in simple text does not translate well into a visual novel format. Sprite work is making its way and will slowly be added to the character page and I will have to say that I get somewhat sentimental to finally see the characters I have envisioned for two years to appear in colour. Music for the proto-demo will be comprised of royalty free music and sound effects, of which the prior will be replaced once a proper musician has been commissioned. The GUI and logo will also eventually have to be made by a designer, but it is in my opinion not a priority for the proto-demo. --- And that is all for the first blog post for the Logic of Genesis. Future posts and updates will be more concise, but I felt it was important to be more expansive on the first post. Please do check out our Instagram where lineart, coloured versions and promo art will be posted and our twitter which contain smaller updates |
